Custom Designs for Mechanisms

Based in Poole in Dorset, EMS manufacturing was started in November 1991, and has grown year on year to become a key strategic part of the portfolio of products and services offered by EMS. The concept was to add value to the products traditionally offered, and then to build on this to offer complete bespoke solutions. Whilst standard products can often answer the customer's needs directly, sometimes the optimisation that comes with a custom design can result in a better overall solution both technically and economically. This is why we try to adopt a completely open mind to what is possible and take on board all of the needs and wishes of the customer.

Experience With a wealth of experience gained over the last 30 years, the design and manufacturing team at EMS Poole work closely with the customer's engineers. EMS has adopted the approach that, whilst a qualified sales engineer will administer a project, to ensure best communications and understanding, direct contact is encouraged between our respective design teams.

EMS now supply custom mechanisms to many industries which include: automotive; medical; metrology; aerospace; control and instrumentation; ergonomic home mobility equipment; petrochemical industry; defence equipment; personal health and safety equipment; and many others.

Equipment EMS use the latest 3D solid modelling and 2D design tools to provide CAD models to the customer to check before initial sampling. This ensures that long before metal is cut, the customer can assess fit and function of the EMS proposal within their own design, and so have a much higher confidence level in the sample performing as required, reducing overall costs and time to market.

EMS has a well equipped manufacturing facility which encompasses 14 CNC machining centres and lathes as well as 19 gear cutting machines for producing spur, helical and worm gearing as our designs require. We also have 5,000 sq/ft of open plan assembly space for maximum flexibilty, and an equally well equipped Quality Control area.

Quality Significant investment continues to be made to ensure that quality is designed in and that machines are set up correctly before production begins. ISO9001:2008 has now been held by EMS since February 2003, and reflects our determination to offer the best quality possible.
